What makes a outstanding teacher?
To be an outstanding teacher one must have all of the following qualities. Passion a teacher must love what they are doing are they should not be doing it. A teacher that is passionate about his or her work will be willing to every and anything to insure the success or their students. An outstanding teacher is also adaptable any situation teachers who are adaptable wear many hats and is able to make their teaching relevant to all students. An outstanding teacher is one who is able to show empathy towards their students. Many different things goes into developing and educating the whole child and as a teacher you need to be able to recognize the needs of all your students and do your best to reach out and do all that is necessary to help students to be there best. No student is unable to learn they just need that special teacher who will make the needs of their students as important as their own if not more.
Knowing subject content and knowledge of teaching practices, being able to work with others, and being open to improvement are also extremely important. Knowing content goes a long way in keeping your students engaged and eager to come and participate in your class. With knowledge of teaching practices an outstanding teacher will be able to teach in a variety of ways in order to reach all their students. Interdisciplinary teaching is wonderful way to demonstrate your ability to work well with others, an outstanding teacher will reach out to teachers from other discipline in order to create something different and unique that students will be able to learn and benefit from. Lastly an outstanding teacher is one that is open to criticism and willing to take that and look for ways to improve themselves so they will always be at their best for the benefit of the students.
How do you address different ability level
In order to determine student’s skills and ability levels I would conduct a pre test to go along with informal observation then create clear objectives. It is important to note that all students learn differently, so to treat them all the same way is unrealistic. Instruction must be given in a way that reaches all students. By giving options and take into consideration the ability levels of all students you will be able to effectively differentiate instruction. It’s also a wonderful idea to pair students or have students work in groups. This gives them the opportunity to work with and feed off each other. Station activity is something that can work well in the classroom as well as in the gymnasium.
How will you work collaboratively with the teaching staff to make physical education an important component of each child's elementary school experience?
I always welcome the importunity to collaborate with my colleagues, by doing this it gives me the opportunity to add another component and as well as develop my skills as a physical educator. However the benefits the students receive is most important. Our job as teachers is to maintain the academic, social and emotional needs of each student here are a few ways I believe I could accomplish this:
- Promoting and being on one accord with teaching staff on the importance and benefits of a healthy lifestyle and the participation in physical
- Constant communication with classroom teachers about teaching styles and techniques, individual student’s needs, and topic currently being taught.
- Research and professional development on how to create interdisciplinary lessons.
Explain why exercise is an important component of an elementary school curriculum
Physical education is important because it one of the only subjects that truly educates the whole child. It plays a role in a student’s academic, social and emotional development. Research supports the importance of movement in educating both mind and body.
A good Physical education curriculum in an elementary school is essential because it allows students the ability to Learn and develop fundamental motor skills and movement frame work as well as understanding the importance of their health and physical activity. Skills such as jumping, skipping, throwing, special awareness, and effort are all learned at this level. Inadequate preparation in these areas sets the tone of a student’s life and plays a crucial role in that’s student’s ability to develop physically socially, cognitively. Proper preparation at this level will surely increase a student’s interest and participation in physical activity throughout their life.
Please share techniques you would utilize to make physical education a meaningful and fun part of each student's day.
The most important thing to understand to understand when trying to make physical education meaning and fun for students especially at the elementary level is that they feed off your energy. If you don’t bring energy and excitement to your class the students wouldn’t.
Hellison's Model of Social Responsibility is a great was to instill discipline in a student. By making them accountable for their own actions, you are able to create an environment where they are competing against themselves in an effort to achieve a higher level of proper behavior.
From your point of view, how important is technology in education? What technology-related skills can you contribute to a school district?
That use of Technology is extremely important in education. It gives students something that they are able to relate to on a much larger scale. Many students’ lives are consumed by technology and its only right that schools seek was to in cooperate this into their curriculum. It could be something as simple as using Music in the classroom or gymnasium or PowerPoint and SmartBoard to more complex forms of technology such as heart rate monitors while participating in physical activity. All these forms of technologies I do have experience with and would be able to bring to your school district. Whatever technology is available I am willing to find ways to in cooperate them in my classes.
